The opening game in Group B of the 2019 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship has ended in a big shock win for KNUST.
Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) beat Accra Technical University (ATU) 32-28 to set up Group B nicely.
The very close game had several game lead changes as both teams battled hard in the first game of the Group of Death in this year’s UPAC quarterfinals.
KNUST had a very good start to the game running off with a 6-0 lead in the early minutes of the first quarter with the favorites ATU falling behind early.
Frederick Asante stole the ball and scored a tough layup to give Accra Technical a 19-18 lead midway through the third quarter.
However, KNUST got a three point shot to fall from the corner after several missed attempts to take the game’s lead in the final quarter.
ATU lost its way in the last minutes of the game and sent KNUST to the free throw line who proceeded to ice the win.
