Accra Technical University (ATU) stayed in contention for a place in the semifinals of the 2019 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship with a crucial win over Radford University College.
ATU clinched a 40-35 win over Radford in a tense Group B matchup that lived up to the billing as a must see game in the second round of games in the quarterfinals taking place at University of Ghana (UG).
The game was tied heading to the second half with each team scoring points in a frantic first half as neither side totally gained control of the tie.
ATU trailed 25-26 at the end of third quarter but got back in the game after Point Guard and livewire Frederick Asante stole the ball and slammed the ball to put his side up 35-32.
Radford Guard Kontor Appiah answered almost instantly with a three point shot to tie the game again but ATU Captain Iddi Eshaw scored inside the paint to ATU back up enroute to a much needed win.
After losing the opening game, ATU needs to beat already eliminated Marshalls University College.
This year’s UPAC is sponsored by CAL Bank and MTN.
