Catholic University College, Ghana (CUCG) has been officially cleared to compete in the 2019 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship.
This comes on the back of Catholic University getting cleared of any charges for fielding illegible players in the recently concluded Zone 4 qualifiers in this year’s UPAC Championship.
Sunyani Technical University (STU) filed the protest after losing 27-33 to Catholic in the final game in Zone 4 that decided the winner of the zone. Only zone winners progress to the knockout phase of the competition.
However, Basketballghana.com can confirm the competition’s Technical Body investigated the matter and cleared the suspected players (names withheld) as eligible to feature in the concluded preliminary stage and further stages in the competition.
This officially takes STU out of contention for a second straight quarterfinal appearance in the elite tertiary basketball tournament.
Catholic University will play in the quarterfinals on April 11 and 12 at the University of Ghana in Ghana’s capital, Accra.
The 2019 UPAC Championship is sponsored by CAL Bank and MTN.
