Central University’s Men’s Basketball Team showed a lot of improvement but missed out on progressing to the quarterfinals of the 2019 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship.

The team placed second in Zone 8 of this year’s competition behind winners University of Ghana (UG) who doubled as host of the qualification games played on Saturday, April 6.

Central University won two of three games at the preliminary stage but lost 17-35 to UG to miss the qualifying to the knockout phase of the 2019 UPAC Championship.

Prior to the loss, Central had a flawless campaign beating Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) 44-13 and beat Regional Maritime University (RMU) 33-19.

Despite having a very good start from the defensive standpoint, Central University collapsed in the second half after trailing 2-3 to UG in the first quarter.

Central missed out on a medal in the Private Universities Sports Association Games (PUSAG) in Cape Coast before competing in the UPAC Championship.

The 2019 UPAC quarterfinals take place at UG on April 11 and 12. The semifinal games and final game take place on April 13. This year’s UPAC is sponsored by CAL Bank and MTN.
