Primeiro do Agosto is officially the first team to reach the semifinals of the 2019 Africa Basketball League (AfroLeague) after eliminating fellow Angolan side Petroleos Atletico.
Agosto beat Atletico 74-57 in the second leg in Luanda to complete a double win over the local rival after the first leg ended in a 70-57 win for Agosto.
The most successful club on the continent becomes the first to qualify to the semifinals with Guard Emmanuel Quezada leading Agosto with 36 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals across the two legs.
Veteran Guard and Angolan legend Carlos Morais starred for Atletico with 14 points and five rebounds but that proved not enough to prevent a second straight loss.
Morais added “We made too many mistakes, and we allowed far too many D’Agosto points in the painted area”.
Later tonight, the all Egyptian clash between Smouha SC and Al Ahly takes place in Alexandria. In the first leg held in Cairo, Smouha clinched a 91-82 win over Ahly.
