University of Ghana (UG) has taken the Zone 8 title in the 2019 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship.
UG took the title earlier today at its Central Court after clinching three straight wins in the zone; the Host Institution bookended the great run with a 35-17 win over Central University.
After a low scoring first quarter that ended with UG leading 3-2, the three time UPAC Champions’ offense started to click towards the end of the first half that ended in a 11-3 lead.
The second half was all about the return of UG’s vaunted three point shooting as Guards Emmanuel Wolff and Treasure Botchwey buried a trio of three point shots respectively to stretch the lead to 35-12.
An equally impressive three point shot from the corner from Central University’s undersized Forward Nii Moi got his side to reduce its deficit but the game ended shortly after that giving UG another pass into the quarterfinals of Ghana’s biggest tertiary basketball competition.
In the prior game, Regional Maritime University beat Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) 19-9 to place third. This year’s UPAC Championship is sponsored by CAL Bank and MTN.
