Three time winners of the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship University of Ghana (UG) have clinched a convincing win in its debut game in the 2019 edition.
Zone 8 qualification games in this year’s edition of Ghana’s biggest tertiary basketball is taking place at the UG Central Court and the host institution had little trouble dispatching Regional Maritime University (RMU).
UG beat RMU 49-25 to begin its title defense on a winning note; UG pretty much had the win in the bag after clinching a 22-7 first half lead.
The 2016, 2017 and 2018 Champions continued in the same stead in the second half and warded off an improved RMU performance to lead 32-13 at the end of the third quarter.
Newbies on the UG team including Guards Sanisa Merdi and Treasure Botchwey played extensive minutes as veterans like Emmanuel Wolff were rested for long periods.
UG plays Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) and RMU plays Central University next.
This year’s UPAC is sponsored by CAL Bank and MTN.
