Central (red) v GIMPA

Central University has secured a big win in its opening game in Zone 8 of this year’s Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship.

Central recorded a 44-13 win over Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) in the second game of today’s qualifiers.

The last round of qualifying games is taking place at the University of Ghana (UG) Central Court with a place in the quarterfinals of Ghana’s biggest tertiary basketball tournament.

GIMPA was overwhelmed by the sheer size of Central University who went on to dominate the boards in the game. Central grabbed a ton of rebounds making four straight grabs in one possession.

Central University led 27-6 at the end of the first half on the back of a bunch of three point shots from the left corner with GIMPA struggling to put together any kind of offense.

GIMPA Guard King Twumasi Appiah showed flashes of decent play down the stretch but Central’s win was all but assured. Central plays Regional Maritime University next; Regional Maritime lost 25-49 against defending champions University of Ghana.
