Central University is on track to progress to the quarterfinals of the 2019 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship.
The team secured its second win in the ongoing qualifiers at the University of Ghana (UG) Central Court thanks to a 33-19 victory over Regional Maritime University.
The win coupled with Central’s 44-13 result over Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) puts the team in a terrific position to top the zone.
Zone winners secure progression to the knockout phase of this year’s competition and a win over UG in the final game of the zone takes them to the quarterfinals.
Should UG fail to beat Regional Maritime in the fourth game of the day, Central University would be the favorites heading to the crucial game.
Central University led 11-10 at the end of the first quarter as RMU battled hard to contain the former’s high rebounding unit. However, Regional Maritime failed to keep up the same energy in the second half as Central pulled away with an 18-12 third quarter and wrapped up the lead in the final quarter.
