Ghana Technology University College (GTUC) has failed to defend its Zone 7 title in the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship.
GTUC missed out on topping the zone in this year’s edition after winning one of three games at the University of Ghana (UG) this past weekend.
Last year’s Zone 7 Champions started on a bright note beating Islamic University College 44-30 with a good all round display in the opening game.
GTUC lost 26-31 to Radford University College in the second game. GTUC recovered from a 19-21 half time deficit to take the game’s lead but couldn’t hold on the lead as Radford scored late in the fourth quarter to clinch the win.
A deflated GTUC side played against University of Professional Studies (UPSA) and lost 21-27 to wrap up the campaign. In 2018, GTUC shocked 2017 silver medalist Marshalls University College 16-14 to win the zone.
This time however, Coach James Ocloo was not present due to national duties with Ghana’s Under 18 Basketball Team. He led Ghana to third place in the FIBA Young Lions Cup West Tournament.
This year’s UPAC Championship is sponsored by CAL Bank and MTN.
