Ghana has placed third in the just ended FIBA Under 18 3×3 Basketball Young Lions Cup West held in Abidjan, Ivory Coast over the weekend.

The nation’s representative in the Male and Female Division both finished in third place in the development tournament.

The latest result represents positive steps for Ghana after the Senior Female Team qualified to the continental Championship last year.

Vikings and Oxford Heat topped the qualifiers organized in Ghana at the Accra Technical University on February 17 in the Male and Female Divisions respectively.

In the preliminary competition, Ghana beat Mauritania 10-3 in the opening game and added 7-3 and 9-4 wins over Niger and Togo in the ensuing games.

Ghana beat Djibouti 7-1 and Sao Tome and Principe 5-2 in the female division to progress to the quarterfinals of the competition.

However, Ghana missed out on the ultimate prize as home nation Ivory Coast won in both divisions. Coach James Ocloo led Ghana’s contingent to Ivory Coast in the three day event.
