Ghanaian Italian Basketball player Awudu Abass was in action for Italy’s Male National Basketball Team in Group D of the European qualifiers helping the team secure a World Cup berth.

The 6 foot 7 inch Forward born to a Ghanaian father in Italy, played 17 minutes in Italy’s 75-41 win over Hungary that sent Italy to this year’s world event.

Abass chipped in eight points and a rebound as a substitute in the crucial game. He knocked down both three point shot attempts but was far less prolific from two point range as he converted just one of seven attempts.

Through 11 games in the qualifiers, the former Armani Milano player and Italian League Champion is averaging 10.7 points and 3.5 rebounds in 20 minutes.

Teammate Amedeo Della Valle and Hungary’s David Vojvoda led the game in scoring with 15 points apiece. Della Valle was one of two Italian players to score in double figures.

In the same Group, Poland secured its place in China in September.
