The second edition of the 2019 BetWay Hoops Tournament rolls out later today at the Tema Community 4 Basketball Court.

This year’s edition features eight teams primed to battle for the title; the competition is funded by lead sports betting firm BetWay and aims at developing basketball at the community level.

The competition started last year with Takoradi Technical University-TTU- as host and Nungua Coldstore emerge champions following a 48-17 win over Oil City Dragons.

Eight teams are set to compete in today’s tournament and all competing teams played in last year’s Tema Community Basketball League playoffs.

Nungua Coldstore, Tema Heat, Francophone Stars, Tema Community 2, Tema Community 4, Teshie Vikings, Teshie Rangers and Akatsi Rifles are the competing teams.

Coldstore is heavily tipped to defend the title considering the team outclassed the league in 2018 to clinch the title.

Keeping in line with tradition, the Community 4 Court was at the receiving end of renovation works prior to the competition. TTU’s Court was renovated ahead of last year’s games.
