Sports Betting Firm BetWay is bankrolling community basketball for the second straight year through its BetWay Hoops Tournament.

The 2019 edition of the competition that started in 2018 is set to take place at the Tema Community 4 Basketball Court on Saturday, February 23.

Eight community based teams are scheduled to compete in the tournament this weekend in the Tema Metropolitan area with Nungua Coldstore as defending champions.

All competing teams played in last season’s Tema Community Basketball League also won by Coldstore following a 2-1 series lead over Tema Heat.

Heat, Francophone Stars, Tema Community 4, Tema Community 2, Teshie Rangers, Akatsi Rifles and Teshie Vikings alongside Coldstore are expected to battle it out for top prize monies.

The aforementioned teams featured in last year’s Tema League playoffs and Saturday’s competition adds to the league’s preseason schedule.

Nungua Coldstore won the maiden BetWay Hoops tourney thanks to a dominant 48-17 win over Oil City Dragons in the final. The team is also a two time Tema Community Basketball League Champion.
