Icons Basketball Club Coach James Ocloo has emerged winner of the Coca-Cola Achievers Award to mark Ghana’s 60th Independence Anniversary Celebrations.
The young trainer topped the sports category of the prestigious award scheme created to honor the efforts and achievements of young Ghanaians.
Ocloo has been involved with basketball for several years and took it upon himself to expand player skill set particularly tall players who are exclusively thrust in limited roles in games. His commitment to steer players from stereo type plays led to the creation of Icons Basketball Club.
Ocloo beat out competition from standout individuals including DC Dynamics Coach and Founder Feranmi Olulonyo.
Under his tutelage, Dynamics has developed into an elite hoops program beyond Dansoman and is competing in Ghana’s premier basketball league, the Accra Basketball League Men’s Division I.
Dynamics gained qualification to the elite division after qualifying as Champions of Division II in 2015. In its debut season, the side avoided relegation and competed in the postseason.
Achievers in other sectors like Arts and Entertainment, Technology and Education were also rewarded.
