Ghana Center Amida Brimah is primed to feature in Austin Spurs opening matchup at the 2019 FIBA Intercontinental Cup later tonight.
Brimah and Austin Spurs play host Flamengo from Brazil in Rio de Janeiro’s Arioca 1 Arena in one of two semifinal games to mark this year’s competition.
Amida is averaging 7.9 rebounds, 8.4 points and 3.2 blocks per game this season. He leads the G League in blocks after doing same last season.
Basketball Champions League winners AEK Athens and South American Champions San Lorenzo are scheduled to face off in the other semifinal.
Spurs are defending NBA Gatorade League champions but have generally struggled this season after losing a chunk of last season’s winning team including Point Guard Derrick White.
Austin has 16 wins and 20 losses this season and ranks ninth in the Western Conference of the G League and lost its final game before flying to Brazil to Salt Lake City Stars.
On the other hand, host Flamengo is in fine form with 16 wins and four losses and goes into the competition with five straight wins.
