Reports reaching Basketballghana.com indicate NBA Gatorade League Champions Austin Spurs have landed in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for the FIBA Intercontinental Cup.
This year’s competition runs from February 15-17 at the Carioca 1 Arena; the plush arena hosted basketball games at the 2016 Olympics.
Ghana Center Amida Brimah is a leading member of the Spurs contingent alongside former NBA player DeJuan Blair in the South American nation.
Brimah led the G League in blocks last season and leads this season in the same category and is expected to star in the competition.
Austin, host Flamengo, South American champions San Lorenzo and Basketball Champions League winners AEK Athens are this year’s participants.
Spurs play Flamengo in the opening game with San Lorenzo taking on AEK in the second game to determine finalists in this year’s competition.
Brimah recently celebrated his 25th birthday on February 11 in his second season with Spurs after graduating as Captain in his final season at University of Connecticut. Spurs swept Raptors 905 to win last season’s G League title.
