Ahead of this year’s FIBA Intercontinental Cup later this week in Brazil, a new trophy for the tournament has been unveiled.
The 2019 competition runs from February 15-17 at the Carioca 1 Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil with four teams competing in the tournament.
NBA Gatorade League Champions Austin Spurs featuring Ghana Center Amida Brimah, host Flamengo, Basketball Champions League winners AEK Athens and San Lorenzo are competing this year.
Each team plays two games in the tournament and the winner of both games will win the new trophy unveiled recently by world governing body FIBA.
The new trophy was designed by TwelfthMan’s Michael Berthon and crafted by Bertoni. It weighs 9.6 kilos and measures 55 centimeters in height.
Bertoni also crafted the new FIBA World Cup Trophy to be first used in this year’s tournament in China.
Ghanaian defender Brimah played a key role in Spurs run to last season’s NBA Gatorade League title leading all players in blocked shots in the regular season. He leads all players in the same category this season with 3.2 blocks per game.
