The start of the 2019 Tema Community Basketball League season is not officially known yet but rumored to start in March or April.
However, the uncertainty over the league’s start date did not hold Ashaiman Lions and Akatsi Rifles back on playing a friendly game.
Both teams compete in the League and played out a high scoring 69-51 game with Lions clinching the win in what is likely to be the first of many friendly games.
Aside clinching a 13-10 win in the second quarter, Rifles trailed Lions for most parts of the game played on Rifles Court.
The two teams shaped the last season’s playoffs roster with Ashaiman pulling out at the last second to be replaced by Rifles who ended the season in ninth place. Lions were the second seed.
Ashaiman pulled out of the postseason citing irreconcilable differences between them and league organizers. Lions are two time league finalists.
Nungua Coldstore won last year’s title following a 2-1 series win in the Finals Series.
