Accra Technical University (ATU) Men’s Basketball Team has extended its reign as Ghana Technical Universities / Polytechnics Sports Association (GHATUSA) Games Champions.
The defending champions clinched a 38-25 win over arch rival Takoradi Technical University (TTU) in the final game played earlier today at ATU’s Court in Tudu.
With ATU leading 10-4, Guard Frederick Asante stole the ball from his opposite number Ibrahim Attipoh to score a layup and increase ATU’s first quarter lead to 12-4.
TTU committed several turnovers and got punished by ATU who led 20-8 at the end of the first half.
TTU scored four points to open the third quarter including a layup from Point Guard Benjamin Sagoe. ATU responded with a five point run but TTU Center Dennis Antwi completed a three point play to end the quarter. TTU trailed 20-26 heading to the final quarter.
Antwi added another three point play to reduce Takoradi’s deficit to three (23-26) early in the fourth quarter.
Gyan scored a beautiful up and under layup and Abdul Razak added three points to stretch ATU’s lead to eight (31-23) setting ATU to see out the final minutes and retain clinch first place once again.
Sunyani Technical University clinched the bronze medal.
