ATU’s Suleman Abubakar attempts layup against Sunyani Technical University.

STU Coach Andrew Quansah
The last time Sunyani Technical University (STU) played against Accra Technical University (ATU) in a knockout competition was at the 2018 UPAC.

Last year’s Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship quarterfinal set up a meeting between the institutions which ended in a 17-48 STU loss.

The two teams are set to face off in the semifinals of this year’s Ghana Technical Universities / Polytechnics Sports Association (GHATUSA) Games.

Both teams go into the fixture set to be played at ATU at 7:00 AM in fine form after topping their respective groups at the group stage.

Defending champions ATU topped Group A after beating Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) 31-28 and Bolgatanga Technical University (94-8).

STU on the other hand, dealt with straight forward wins over Ho Technical University; STU recorded 40-28 and 29-26 wins over Ho Technical.

The big clash will play out against the backdrop of STU Coach Andrew Quansah’s comment on ATU’s title chances prior to the start of the competition.

Takoradi Technical University plays KsTU in the second semifinal game at 9:00 AM.
