The opening ceremony of the maiden Ghana Technical Universities / Polytechnics Sports Association (GHATUSA) Games will come off later today.
The 2019 edition is the first to be organized under the new name after previous editions were held under the name GHAPSA (Ghana Polytechnics Sports Association) Games.
The multisport competition is exclusively for the Technical University and Polytechnics sect of Ghana’s tertiary educational level.
Accra Technical University (ATU) is host of this year’s edition but several venues will be used as ancillary venues for several disciplines.
Contingents of various institutions are expected to be present for the ceremony today which is set to be presided over by ATU’s top hierarchy including Sports Director Princeworth Anane.
Student-Athletes are in line to compete in basketball, football, netball, volley ball, badminton, taekwondo, tennis and athletics.
Host ATU has dominated the event in recent years winning the biannual competition in three straight editions including a cart topping performance in 2017 in Bolgatanga.
ATU’s Male and Female Basketball Teams are defending champions in basketball.
