The 2019 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship is set to run from February to April with University of Ghana (UG) as defending champions.
Ghana’s premier university has won the UPAC title for a record three straight times from 2016 to 2018 and is aiming for a record extending fourth straight win.
32 institutions from Universities, University Colleges, Education and Health Colleges will compete in the preliminary stage of the tournament.
However, the first phase is set to be dominated once again by teams representing institutions from Ghana’s Greater Accra Region.
The West African nation’s capital region has a significant number of tertiary institutions and unsurprisingly had the most representatives in the competition’s history.
UG headlines the list of representatives which includes former silver medalist Marshalls University College and two time champions Accra Technical University (ATU).
The upcoming tournament is the fifth edition of the heralded tournament and will have a special 3×3 basketball competition held during the final phase.
ATU and UG have won continental titles after winning UPAC.
