Nigerian Basketball Club Rivers Hoopers is in line to feature in the 2019 FIBA Africa Basketball League (AfroLeague) later this year.
The team will do son in North Africa at the home arena of defending continental champions AS Sale following the announcement by FIBA.
Sale won its first African title last year by beating Tunisia’s ES Rades last year in the competition then known as FIBA Africa Club Champions Cup.
Hoopers and Sale are joined in Group A by JS Kairouan from Tunisia and SLAC from Mali to battle for two qualification slots to the next stage. Group games run from March 1-3.
The Nigerian team topped the Zone Three qualifiers played late last year in Cotonou, Benin to qualify for the continental competition.
Aside Hoopers, Nigerian side Civil Defenders and Benin side Elan Sportif progressed to feature in the maiden edition of the AfroLeague.
Ghana side Braves of Customs competed against Hoopers but missed out on a qualification spot despite excellent performances from Suleman Abubakar and Guard Baniba Dodzie.
