Brazil’s Carioca Arena will host this year’s FIBA Intercontinental Cup next month with the iconic venue hosting its first major competition since the Olympic Games were held.
The Arena located in Rio de Janeiro was the center piece for the 2016 Summer Olympics Basketball event won by USA.
The 2019 Championship is set to be played from February15-17 with four teams competing including Brazil’s Flamengo.
Reigning NBA Gatorade League Champions Austin Spurs is set to compete in the tournament alongside Basketball Champions League winners AEK Athens and San Lorenzo.
The last Intercontinental Cup was held in Tenerife, Spain in 2017 with homeside Iberostar Tenerife winning thanks to a 76-71 win over Guaros de Lara from Venezuela.
Ghana Center Amida Brimah is in his second year with Spurs after graduating from University of Connecticut as Captain in his final year.
The 6 foot 11 inch defender led the league in blocked shots en route to Spurs winning the 2017-2018 title. He is second in blocks this season.
