The 2019 Sprite Ball Championship produced a string of sterling performances from the 20 participating schools at the El Wak Stadium in Accra.

Mfantsipim School and Kumasi Girls Senior High School were crowned champions in the Boys and Girls Divisions respectively.

However, some teams failed to live up to expectations in the just ended 13th edition of Ghana’s biggest high school basketball competition. Below is a list of teams that underperformed:

Pope John Senior High School and Minor Seminary (POJOSS)

POJOSS rolled into the competition as a dark horse contender for the title but ended up exiting at the preliminary stage in Group B.

The team had won two bronze medals in three editions prior to 2019 and started on a bright note beating Prempeh College 39-31.

However, a shock 21-33 loss to West African Senior High School ended Pope John and new Coach Kofi Elias run in the competition early.

Koforidua Senior High Technical School (KSTS)

Despite failing to clinch a win in the 2018 edition, KSTS promised to rebound from the disappointing campaign but ended up with another poor showing.

The failed to win a game at El Wak for the second straight season as the school lost 18-36 to Adisadel College and 16-42 to Opoku Ware School.

Accra Wesley Girls High School

Accra Wesley won silver medals in the 2016 and 2018 editions but failed to progress from Group B in this year’s competition.

Despite being overwhelming favorites for the title, the team managed win in three games to crash out of the tournament. Accra Wesley beat Nkawkaw Senior High School 20-8 after losing to St. Louis and Shama Senior High School.
