Exactly a week ago, the 2019 Sprite Ball Championship commenced at the El Wak Stadium in Accra with 20 schools competing for honours in the Boys Division and Girls Division.
This year’s competition was the 13th edition of Ghana’s biggest high school basketball competition which had 12 schools in the Boys Division and eight schools in the Girls Division.
Kumasi Girls Senior High School and Presbyterian Senior High School (PRESEC-Osu) rolled into the tournament as defending champions.
Both schools recorded big wins in the opening games as Kumasi Girls pummeled Mawuli Senior High School 39-6 in the Girls Division’s opening game.
PRESEC-Osu run away with a 23-9 win over tournament debutant Bishop Herman College in the first game of the competition.
Big names like Mfantsipim School, Opoku Ware School recorded wins while surprise names like West Africa Senior High School and Mfanstiman Girls Senior High School also scored shock wins.
Day One ended play at the preliminary stage with Pope John Senior High School, Accra Wesley Girls High School surprisingly fail to qualify.
