Ghana Center Amida Brimah is in line to feature for Austin Spurs in this year’s FIBA Intercontinental Cup to be held in Brazil Basketballghana.com can confirm.
The competition will be held at the Carioca 1 Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from February 15-17 with four teams competing for the title.
The upcoming tournament is set to be the first time the reigning NBA Gatorade League Champions will compete against fellow continental winners.
Austin Spurs won last season’s G League title by sweeping then defending champions Raptors 905 in the finals series with Brimah playing for Spurs.
He led the regular season in blocks in his maiden season with Austin after playing with the team’s NBA affiliate side San Antonio Spurs.
This year’s competition has reigning Basketball Champions League winners AEK Athens, San Lorenzo do Almagro from Argentina and host Flamengo.
FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis sounded enthusiastic about the tournament stating:
“We’re excited to bring the FIBA Intercontinental Cup back to the Americas and hold this edition in Rio’s excellent Olympic basketball venue, which was the site of so many great moments during the 2016 Games”.
