The 2019 Sprite Ball Championship ended over the weekend at the El Wak Stadium in Accra with Mfantsipim School winning the Boys Division and Kumasi Girls Senior High School winning the Girls Division.
Mfantsipim’s win extends the school’s title count in Ghana’s biggest high school basketball competition to five with its closest challenger-Achimota School-on two titles.
However, in the Girls Division, the title race is a close one and the chase on three time winners Wesley Girls High School has heated up with Kumasi Girls winning its second title.
This puts KGEE in second place alongside fellow two time winners T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School, Aggrey Memorial Zion and Sacred Heart Senior High Technical School behind Wesley Girls.
Like Kumasi Girls, T.I. Ahmadiyya and Sacred Heart won back to back titles with Aggrey Memorial winning in 2013 and 2016.
Kumasi Girls won its maiden title last year and beat Mfantsiman Girls Senior High School 22-14 in Saturday’s final game for its second straight title. Kumasi Girls Coach Zibo Brown and Center Abigail Gyamfi were named Coach of the Tournament and Most Valuable Player of the Tournament.
