Mfantsiman Girls Senior High School has ended the 2019 Sprite Ball Championship in second place behind winners Kumasi Girls High School.
The school lost 14-22 in the Girls Division final at this year’s Sprite Ball which ended over the weekend at the El Wak Stadium in Accra.
Despite missing out on its maiden title, Mfantsiman’s silver medal marks a big return for the Saltpond based school to Ghana’s biggest high school basketball tournament.
Mfantsiman won bronze in the January 2016 edition but missed out on the subsequent editions after failing to progress from the Central Regional qualifiers.
However, the school took down big fishes in the division to make it to the national competition and secure its best result at the tournament.
In the zonal division, Mfantsiman eliminated two time national champions Aggrey Memorial Zion before topping three time national champions Wesley Girls High School to qualify.
In Accra, the Coach Ernest Koomson led team placed second in Group A behind eventual winners Kumasi Girls and beat St. Louis Senior High School 18-9 in the semifinals.
