Mfantsipim Point Guard Steven Owusu and Kumasi Girls Senior High School Center Abigail Gyamfi have been named Most Valuable Players at the just ended 2019 Sprite Ball Championship.

The 13th edition of Ghana’s biggest high school basketball competition concluded on Saturday with Mfantsipim beating West Africa Senior High School (WASS) 35-16 to lift the Boys Division.

In the Girls Division, Kumasi Girls beat Mfantsiman Girls Senior High School 22-14 to lift its second straight Sprite Ball title.

A slew of candidates were worthy Most Valuable Player Award winners in both divisions but Gyamfi and Owusu stood out in the biggest games earning them the top prizes.

Owusu was key in Mfantsipim’s comeback from trailing 0-6 in the early minutes to hand WASS a 19 point loss in the final. The diminutive Guard run riot in the second half to clinch Mfantsipim’s record extending fifth title.

Gyamfi was matched up against Mfantsiman Center Elizabeth Opabunmi in a battle of bigs in the final but the former proved unstoppable dominating the matchup.
