Opoku Ware School (OWASS) and Mfantsipim School have qualified to compete at the semifinal stage of the 2019 Sprite Ball Championship.
OWASS secured a 23-18 win over St. John’s School in the penultimate quarterfinal game before Mfantsipim run over Cape Coast rival Adisadel College 28-18 in the final quarterfinal game.
Guards Melchizedek Yorke and Nicholas Essien played key roles in OWASS strong start against Western Region side St. John’s.
OWASS is set to play West Africa Senior High School (WASS) in the semifinal with WASS set to play in its first ever semifinal matchup.
Mfantsipim lost to OWASS in the December 2016 Sprite Ball Final and both teams could play in another final game as Mfantsipim took care of local rival Adisadel.
The KwaBotwe clinched the ten point win despite falling 8-12 in the first half after a making a sluggish start.
Center Kuuku Baidoo-Mensah scored a crucial basket in the second half to halt Adisadel’s come back and secure the win for his side.
Mfantsipim plays last year’s winners Osu-PRESEC in the final four.
