After several failed attempts, Mfantsipim School has finally climbed to the summit of high school male division basketball in Ghana by winning the 2019 Sprite Ball Championship.
This year’s competition had Mfantsipim play West Africa Senior High School (WASS) in the final game of the West African nation’s biggest basketball competition.
Mfantsipim clinched its fifth title courtesy a 35-16 win over WASS in a final game that a lot of ebbs and flows in the first half but was settled in the second thanks to a blistering display from Mfantsipim Point Guard Samuel Owusu.
Despite trailing 3-6 at the end of the first quarter and tying the game’s core at eight in the second quarter, Mfantsipim shut out WASS in the ensuing half to easily win the tie.
Thanks to Owusu’s heroics and finishing from the likes of Nigel Quaynor, Mfantsipim had its record extending fifth Sprite Ball title wrapped up long before the blast of the whistle.
Unsurprisingly, Owusu was named Most Valuable Player of the tournament.
