Mfantsipim School has been drawn in Group D of the 2019 Sprite Ball Championship alongside Keta Business College (KETABUSCO) and St. John’s School.
This year’s Sprite Ball runs from January 11-12 at the El Wak Stadium in Accra with 12 schools participating in the Boys Division. Osu-PRESEC are defending champions.
Getting drawn alongside KETABUSCO means for the second straight year, Mfantsipim will face off against a Keta based school after playing Keta Senior High Technical School in last year’s prelims.
Record winners of Ghana’s biggest high school basketball competition-Mfantsipim- lost 13-16 to Keta in the final group game.
That loss coupled with 14-45 humiliation the team suffered at the hands of Osu-PRESEC meant an early exit from the tournament.
However, Mfantsipim successfully appealed against some Keta players eligibility to play in the competition leading to its reinstatement and subsequent disqualification of Keta.
Keta has been banned from competing in the Championship for two straight editions including this year’s for its actions.
Mfantsipim last won the trophy in 2015 and has since lost three straight finals.
