The year 2018 is almost over and Basketballghana.com looks takes a look at the some of the high points in the basketball calendar.
University of Ghana (UG) Male Basketball Team for a third year in a row stepped on the podium to receive gold medals for winning the UPAC title.
The 2018 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges Basketball Championship was annexed by UG; a sight that has become the constant for Ghana’s premier University.
By beating bitter rival Accra Technical University (ATU) 41-36 in the final game, UG successfully defended its 2016 and 2017 titles to become the first ever tertiary side to do so.
Despite having a major turnover in Coaching and Player personnel, the “Guerillas” gutted out a close win over Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and came back to beat ATU in the final after falling behind 20-27 in the first half.
For the first time in the competition’s history, the Most Valuable Player Award was shared; UG Guards Emmanuel Wolff and Kwame Opoku were named Co-MVP winners.
UG won its second gold medal at this year’s All Africa University Games (FASU).
