The year 2018 is almost over and Basketballghana.com looks takes a look at the some of the high points in the basketball calendar.
The 2018 edition of Ghana’s biggest high school basketball tournament-Sprite Ball- was held in January and had two new winners.
Kumasi Girls Senior High School and Presbyterian Senior High School (PRESEC-Osu) were crowned Sprite Ball winners in the Girls and Boys Divisions respectively.
Osu-PRESEC clinched its first ever title by beating record winners Mfantsipim School 25-22 in the Boys Final. The win was Osu’s second in the competition over Mfantsipim following a 45-14 win in the opening game.
PRESEC beat out the likes of Pope John Senior High School 2014 winners Keta Senior High Technical School and Takoradi Technical Institute en route to the trophy. Pope John placed third with Sacred Heart Senior High Technical School placing fourth.
In the Girls Division, Kumasi Girls marked the its turn appearance in the Sprite Ball Championship with a gold medal winning performance in January.
KGEE piped Accra Wesley Girls High School 30-29 in overtime in arguable the best female final in the competition’s history to win the title. Ahantaman Girls Senior High won the Western Region’s first medal in the Girls Division by placing third.
