Prior to jump ball in the opening game of the 2019 Sprite Ball Championship, the upcoming edition has gained notoriety over the inescapable absences of heavy hitters in the competition.

The Sprite Ball Championship is Ghana’s biggest High School Basketball competition and is set to roll out from January 11-12 at the El Wak Stadium in Accra.

12 schools in the Boys Division and eight schools in the Girls Division will play for the chance the chance to win the coveted trophy at stake.

However, PRESEC-Legon will not feature in the tournament after the school failed to qualify from the Greater Accra Regional games.

PRESEC lost 5-15 to West Africa Senior High School (WASS) in the final game with WASS progressing to the national competition.

WASS joins defending National Champions PRESEC-Osu as representatives of the region in January, 2019. Osu PRESEC qualified by virtue of winning the 2018 edition.

Two time National Silver Medalist Accra Wesley Girls High School and WASS will represent Greater Accra Region in the Girls Division.

PRESEC-Legon lost to Keta Senior High Technical School in the 2014 National Final Game. Former winners including St. Augustine’s College and Wesley Girls High School failed to qualify to the 2019 Championship.
