2018 Tema Community Basketball League Most Valuable Player Award winner Benjamin “Padlock” Omari ended up on the losing team at the end of the season.
Omari’s Tema Heat lost 49-53 to Nungua Coldstore in Game 3 of the Finals Series to miss out on its first Tema League title.
Despite missing out on the team award, Omari was named MVP becoming the first ever recipient not from the league winning team.
Some quarters have reservations over Omari’s selection ahead of contenders like Coldstore’s Emmanuel Wolff and Tema Community 2 Guard Kwame Attafuah.
However, Omari’s immense value to his team played out in the final minutes of Game 3 as Heat blew a seven point lead in his absence.
Omari fouled out of the game deep in the final quarter with Heat leading 47-40 but Tema couldn’t keep it together during that stretch to lose by four points.
Heat took the Series lead with a 63-58 win in Game One but failed to hold on to win the title.
