Braves of Customs represented Ghana at the recent FIBA Africa Champions Cup Zone Three qualifiers in Cotonou, Benin aiming to qualify to the 2019 AfroLeague Cup.
The team missed out on qualifying to the continental competition after winning two of five games including an 80-69 win over Harbel Pointers from Liberia.
Rivers Hoopers, Civil Defenders-both from Nigeria- and Elan Sportif from host nation Benin qualified from the zone with Hooopers finishing on top without any losses in five games.
However, it was not all doom and gloom for Braves as the Accra Basketball League (ABL) Men’s Division I Champions had reasons to smile in the individual categories.
Center Suleman Abubakar was named among the top five players in the tournament after starring for his side in five appearances.
Aside making the Team of the Tournament, Abubakar led all players in the competition in blocked shots and living up to his reputation in the process.
This is the second straight time Abubakar has been named to the Team of the Tournament in Zone 3; In 2017, he joined the likes of Nigerian veteran player Usman Abubakar of Kano Pillars in the top selections.
Braves Shooting Guard Baniba led all players in three point shots made.
