Basketballghana.com can confirm Basketball Africa League (BAL) side Rivers Hoopers has commenced training ahead of the anticipated competition.
The team gathered for its first training session in seven months on Thursday, October 22; Hoopers had to miss training sessions due to a ban on contact sports in Nigeria.
The ban was a preventive measure to curb the spread of the Corona virus that has infected over three million people worldwide.
Hoopers is part of the 12 team field set to compete from December 5 to December 18 in Kigali, Rwanda in the maiden edition of the BAL which is backed by the NBA and FIBA Africa.
The Nigerian side has been drawn alongside Zamalek (Egypt), Ferroviario do Maputo (Mozambique), FAP (Cameroon), Union Sportive (Tunisia) and Patriots (Rwanda).
“The feeling of being able to step on the basketball court is such a big relief for me and my teammates…that feeling of playing together once again will help us as we intensify our preparation for the BAL Final Round” Hoopers Guard Owas Alalibo said to FIBA.
