Ghana’s representative at the just ended FIBA African Championship Zone 3 Qualifiers in Cotonou, Benin-Braves of Customs- has narrowly missed out on qualifying to the main competition.
The Ghanaian side missed out on one of three qualifying spots to feature in next year’s AfroLeague Cup after ending the tournament with two wins and three losses.
Braves beat Harbel Pointers 80-69 in its final game to end its campaign on a high despite failing to progress from the zone.
Earlier in the competition, Braves secured a 75-50 win over AS Police from Niger but poor first quarter displays doomed Customs in the opening games.
Slow starts played a big role in 64-81 and 52-70 losses to Elan Sportif from Benin and Rivers Hoopers from Nigeria respectively.
However, a 66-53 loss to Civil Defenders also from Nigeria all but ended Braves chances of qualification in the penultimate game.
Rivers Hoopers and Civil Defenders and Benin side Elan Sportif secured the qualification spots for the upcoming tournament. Hoopers ended the tournament without any losses.
