Ghana’s Braves of Customs have wrapped up competing in the just ended FIBA Africa Championship Zone 3 Qualifiers in Cotonou, Benin. The team played its final game earlier today.
Braves recorded an 80-69 win over Harbel Pointers from Liberia to close its run on a good note despite missing out on a qualification spot.
Customs two wins in five games trailed Rivers Hoopers from Nigeria, Elan Sportif from Benin and Civil Defenders also from Nigeria in the final standings. The trio has qualified to the AfroLeague Cup in 2019.
Despite the loss, Braves left its mark on the tournament as Center Suleman Abubakar was named among the Top 5 Players in the tournament.
Davidson Samuel from Liberia, Romario Akpatchi from Benin and Nigerian duo Vincent Oyenbuchi and Joel Ijgba were named to the team.
Abubakar walked away with another individual award as he ended the competition as the leader in blocked shots living up to his reputation as an elite defender.
Shooting Guard Baniba Dodzie led the tournament in made three point shots. Dodzie and Abubakar are former Most Valuable Player Award winners at the Ghana Basketball Awards.
