Braves of Customs from Ghana grabbed its first win on the third day of competition in the FIBA Africa Champions Cup Zone 3 thanks to a 75-50 win over AS Police of Nigeria but Day 3 belonged to Rivers Hoopers.
Rivers Hoopers Basketball Club from Nigeria officially became the first team to qualify to next year’s FIBA Africa Champions Cup from Zone 3.
The team booked its ticket to the competition now known as the Afro League after recording its third win of the zonal competition taking place in Cotonou, Benin.
Hoopers beat Benin side Elan Sportif 71-63 to guarantee a safe passage to the continental competition; Rivers beat Ghana’s representative Braves of Customs 70-52 earlier in the competition.
Rivers beat Civil Defenders also from Nigeria 89-84 and play Police and Harbel Pointers of Liberia in the remaining games on Saturday and today respectively.
“It’s always a big joy going for something like this especially the Afro League. It’s the first season so being part of history is something that makes me very excited” Hoopers Coach Ogoh Odaudu stated after sealing qualification.
