Ghana’s representative at this year’s FIBA Africa Champions Cup Zone 3 tournament Braves of Customs, have secured its maiden win.
Braves beat AS Police from Nigeria 75-50 to end its losing streak in the competition and breathe brief life into its hopes of qualifying to the continental championship.
The main competition is slated for January next year and is now the AfroLeague Cup as part of widespread changes from the sport’s continental body.
Braves lost to host nation Benin’s Elan Sportif in the opening game and fell 50-72 to Rivers Hoopers in the second game before clinching the important win.
Customs Coach Lawal Brimah opined a poor start in both games was the reason behind the losses and believed a change was necessary.
The team plays Harbel Pointers from Liberia in its final game of the tournament on Saturday, December 8. Nigeria’s Rivers Hooopers is the first team to qualify to the continental competition.
Two qualifying spots remain in the zone.
