Rivers Hoopers Basketball Club of Nigeria has recorded its second win in the ongoing FIBA Africa Zone 3 Champions Cup in Cotonou, Benin.
Hoopers recorded a 70-52 win over Ghana’s Braves of Customs keeping its hopes of qualifying to the continental tournament alive.
Rivers’ Victor Koko starred for his side with a 15 point, nine rebound production falling one rebound short of recording a double double.
The win follows Hoopers hard fought 89-84 win over country rival Civil Defenders in the opening round. Rivers player Buchi Nwaiwu led the game with 35 points.
Clinching two wins in two games moves Hoopers closer to clinching one of three spots for the continental competition next year which falls in line with the team’s aspirations.
Prior to the start of the tournament, Hoopers Assistant Captain Ronald Alalibo stated, “we will do our best to win the tournament” in a chat with aclsports.
Six teams in the West African sub regions are competing in the tournament. Braves won Ghana’s Accra Basketball League (ABL) Men’s Division I title earlier this year.
