The standout talking point as regional qualifiers for the Sprite Ball Championship next year comes to an end is the number of big name absentees thus far.

The 2019 Sprite Ball Championship is due to be played from January 11-12 at the El Wak Stadium in Accra with 20 schools set to compete in the Boys and Girls Division.

However, in the lead up to the competition, a host of big names including former winners of Ghana’s biggest basketball competition have failed to qualify to next year’s games.

In the Ashanti Region, two time national champions T.I. Ahamdiyya Seniopr High School missed out while Wesley Girls High School an Aggrey Memorial Zion Senior High School also failed to qualify.

Wesley Girls are the record winners of Sprite Ball with three titles while Aggrey Memorial has won two trophies in the competition’s history.

2016 National Champions St. Augustine’s College misses out on the 2019 edition after falling behind Mfantsipim School and Adisadel College.

The Greater Accra Regional Qualifiers tips off on Thursday, December 6 and ends on Saturday, December 8 at PRESEC-Legon.

A host of big names are set to compete including two time Finalist Accra Wesley Girls High School and the absentees list could grow further at the end of the qualifiers.
