For the first time in three editions of the Sprite Ball Championship, Ghana’s Western Region will not be represented by Ahantaman Girls Senior High School at the Sprite Ball Championship.
The prestigious honour falls on Shama Senior High School who beat Ahantaman 9-7 to win the region’s sole qualification spot at the regional qualifiers held over the weekend.
Qualification represents a big return for the region’s one time consistent representative in Ghana’s biggest High School Basketball tournament.
Shama did not play at Sprite Ball in the past two editions as Ahantaman Girls took the coveted spot and turned into a household name after placing in the last edition.
The last Sprite Ball was held in January this year and Ahantaman’s vociferous display of enthusiasm ahead of the competition added another dimension to the games.
However, Shama ended any hope for a third straight qualification for the Royals with the win in Takoradi. In the Boys Division, St. John’s School, Sekondi and Sekondi College will represent the region.
