Angola is the ninth nation to book a spot in the FIBA 2019 World Cup in China after clinching its eighth win in the African qualifiers.
The continental powerhouse handed Chad a heavy 90-50 loss to secure qualification with eight wins and three losses in 11 games.
Angola is the record winner of the African Nations Championship-Afrobasket- and joins recent winners Nigeria and Tunisia as the African nations to qualify.
32 teams representing 32 nations will compete in 2019 at the World Cup and Africa has two remaining spots to fill.
Angola’s veterans once again stepped up when it mattered most as Yannick Moreira and Carlos Morais bagged enough points to ensure victory.
After getting ejected in the third quarter in Angola’s previous matchup against Cameroon, Moreira scored the game’s only double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
After hitting the go ahead three point shot against Cameroon, Morais scored 14 points to carry Angola through.
The team’s qualification was aided by Tunisia’s 64-73 loss to Egypt. Tunisia leads the standings with 21 points, Angola has 19 and Egypt has 18.
