Ahead of qualifiers for next year’s Sprite Ball Championship in Ghana’s Central Region, Mfantsiman Girls Senior High School talked tough.
Despite failing to qualify to Ghana’s biggest High School Basketball competition in the past two editions, the Saltpond-based institution was confident of progress this time around.
True to tough words from Coach Ernest Koomson, the team piped heavyweight Wesley Girls High School 7-6 in the final game to qualify.
Ahead of the qualifiers, Koomson stated, “this time around we will definitely clinch that spot to represent the Central Region”.
Mfantsiman showed its giant killing potential at the zonal level where it beat two time national champions Aggrey Memorial Zion to first place in Zone 1.
Falling behind Mfantsiman meant automatic elimination for Aggrey; Ghana National College competed in the zone and also missed out.
Wesley Girls showed signs of weakness early on in the competition as the team fell 14-16 to Swedru School of Business at the preliminary stage.
Mfantsiman is a two time Bronze medal winner at Sprite Ball.
