Augustine’s (green) v Mfantsipim at the Robert Mensah Stadium in last year’s qualifiers.

A trio of qualifying spots to the next Sprite Ball Championship is up for grabs as the Central Regional Qualifiers commences.

The regional games take place on Thursday, November 29 at the Adisadel College in Cape-Coast with over a dozen schools competing for places in Ghana’s biggest High School Basketball Tournament in January 2019.

Two spots are available in the Boys Division while just a spot is available in the Girls Division in a far lower number of qualification slots than in recent years.

Due to the region’s storied list of achievements in the competition over the years, Central Region has fielded at least four representatives at the national level.

The recently ended Ashanti Regional qualifiers had two reps in the Male and two reps in the Female Divisions respectively. Defending national champions Kumasi Girls High School headlined the quartet.

However, the region is bound to have a pair of reps in the Male Division which has Central Region’s Mfantsipim School as record winners.

Former national champions Aggrey Memorial and Wesley Girls High School are contenders.
